Wolf Creek Bird Dogs is a family outfit out of Traer, Iowa — a hard-hunting pack of Labs, English Pointers, Setters, and Épagneul Bretons, backed by Wolf Creek Lofts, where we raise our own pigeons — bred for the field so the dogs never run out of birds, and bred for color too, since some are destined to be somebody's pet instead of somebody's flush. We train field-first, building the hunter and the confidence in the dog before we ever polish the manners, and we put what we live on hats and tees for the people who get it. Dogs. Birds. Family. Tradition. That's the whole operation.
LeRoy doesn't build bird dogs off a checklist. He builds them the way his dad built him — time in the field, birds in the air, and enough freedom to figure out who you are. The goal never changes: a huntin' dog that can run a trial — not a trial dog that can't hunt.
Every pup starts with freedom, birds, and zero pressure. LeRoy lets a puppy be a puppy — lets it be the animal it was meant to be — and watches while it finds its own strengths instead of having them forced. Nothing hindered, nothing heavy-handed. That's where the courage, determination, and motivation come from: a dog that's strong in the field because it built that strength itself.
Birds, birds, and more birds — straight from Wolf Creek Lofts. Confidence gets built one find at a time, until the dog believes in its own nose more than anything on four legs has a right to. You build the hunter up. You never drill it in.
Once the character is set and the confidence is real, the obedience comes easy — because now the dog has something worth minding its manners for. Steady, honest, and finished without ever losing the fire.
"You can't put hunt into a dog. You can only keep from taking it out."
One family. A whole pack. No days off.
